-Persimmons: Also known as kaki (or Sharon fruit), these popular Asian fruits also have native North American cousins (in Southern states). Fuyû persimmons, flat and squarish, are gaining in popularity as they are ready to eat. Hachiya (pointed) kakis either need to be left to ripen until they are jelly-soft, or you can keep in an air-tight container with vodka to remove any trace of bitterness.
